Ticagrelor (Tab 90 mg): Supply issue
Due to shipping delays, Sandoz expects to run out ticagrelor tablets (Pharmacode: 2638770) by mid-March 2026.

Unfortunately, because of a delayed shipment the supplier will go out of stock of the following product from mid-March 2026.

Alternative brand listed 1 March 2026
An alternative brand has been listed from 1 March 2026. It is not registered with Medsafe and will have to be prescribed and dispensed in line with section 29A of the Medicines Act.
The alternative is from Italy. The box will be overlabelled in English, but the blister packs will still be in Italian. There will an English consumer medicine information sheet in the box.
It contains the same active ingredient in the same amount, it is designed to work in the body the same way.

Information for pharmacists
- RxOne users: The new listing will be automatically updated by RxOne on the effective date.
- TONIQ users: The new listing will automatically be updated in Toniq medicine databases from the effective date.
- ScriptSense users: The listing will be automatically updated by ScriptSense from the effective date.
Claiming
Please note Sector Operations Group will be unable to process claims for March 2026 dispensings of Ticagrelor Mylan.
Pharmacies can either:
- hold these claims until April 2026 OR
- re-claim them in April 2026 when they are rejected for payment in March 2026 claim.
Prescribing and supplying an unapproved medicine
Section 29A of the Medicines Act 1981 allows for medicines that are not Medsafe approved to be prescribed and supplied to people.
We know supplying an unapproved medicine. In this case, however, this will allow people to continue to access an appropriate treatment.
