Teriparatide (Teva): Supply issue
Teva, the supplier, is out of stock of its New Zealand labelled of Teriparatide Teva injections (Pharmacode: 2670399).
Alternative available and funded
Teva's UK-branded teriparatide is funded from 10 August. This teriparatide will work the same as your usual NZ-branded teriparatide, it is just packaged for sale in the UK.
You will notice that the packaging uses different colours and that the strength is written differently. The UK box says 20 micrograms / 80 microlitres, where the NZ box says 250 mcg / ml. Despite this both injections deliver the same amount of teriparatide.
Because of the packaging differences, this medicine needs to be supplied as an unapproved medicine. Your prescriber and pharmacist will talk to you more about this, but you can also find information on the Healthify website.
Information for health care professionals
UK-branded Teriparatide Teva is funded from 10 August 2026. It is not Medsafe approved and will need to be prescribed and dispensed in line with section 29A of the Medicines Act.
The strength is written differently but both products contain a total of 600 mcg of teriparatide per 2.4 ml.

Prescribing and supplying an unapproved medicine
Section 29A of the Medicines Act 1981 allows for medicines that are not Medsafe approved to be prescribed and supplied to people when there is a supply issue.
We know supplying an unapproved medicine. In this case, however, this will allow people to continue to access an appropriate treatment.
We apologise for any inconvenience this causes.
