Decision to list medical devices supplied by Ambu New Zealand Pty Limited

Hospital devices Decision

What we’re doing

We are pleased to announce the approval of a listing agreement with Ambu New Zealand Pty Limited (“Ambu”) for the supply of electrocardiogram equipment and accessories (“ECG devices”).

In summary this will result in:

  • Ambu’s range of ECG devices being listed in Part III of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 April 2025 under a national agreement that all Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora (“Health NZ”) hospitals may purchase under; and
  • Health NZ hospitals being able to purchase other suppliers’ brands of ECG devices as the agreement is not for sole supply.

Any changes to the original proposal?

This decision was subject to a consultation letter dated 11 February 2025.

No changes were made as a result of consultation.

Detail about this decision

In 2021 Pharmac issued a registration of interest (“ROI”) for the supply of electrocardiogram  equipment and accessories.

The ROI was for non-exclusive national agreements for listing on the Pharmaceutical Schedule.

After completing the evaluation processes, and consulting on the provisional agreement with Ambu, Pharmac has decided to list Ambu’s ECG devices in Part III of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 April 2025.

The list of products will be available on Pharmac’s website from 1 April 2025.

Health NZ hospitals can continue to choose which ECG devices they purchase, including those from other suppliers. Health NZ hospitals that purchase ECG devices from Ambu must do so under the terms and conditions, including pricing, in the agreement from 1 April 2025.
