Decision to approve medical devices agreement with Carl Zeiss (N.Z.) Limited

Hospital devices Decision

What we’re doing

We're pleased to announce the approval of a listing agreement with Carl Zeiss (N.Z) Limited (“Carl Zeiss”) for the supply of medical devices to Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora (“Health NZ”) Hospitals in the following categories:

In summary this will result in:

  • Listing the medical devices supplied by Carl Zeiss in Part III of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 September 2025 under a national agreement that all Heath NZ hospitals may purchase under; and
  • Health NZ hospitals being able to continue to purchase other suppliers’ brands of medical devices in the above categories as the agreement is not for sole supply.

Any changes to the original proposal?

This decision was subject to a consultation letter dated 30 June 2025.

During the consultation period Carl Zeiss identified that some of their medical devices in the medical and surgical instruments and power tools category had not been included in the provisional agreement. The agreement was amended to include these additional medical devices.
