Sumatriptan injections are used for the treatment of migraines.
What is changing?
The brand name of the currently funded sumatriptan injections will change from Sun-Pharma to Clustran.
When will the change occur?
- From 1 February 2017 the brand name of the fully subsidised sumatriptan injections will change from Sun-Pharma to Clustran.
- From 1 July 2017 the sumatriptan injections branded Sun-Pharma will no longer be available, only the Clustran branded injections will be fully funded.
Will the new brand work the same?
Yes. Only the brand name of your medicine is changing. Clustran will have the same amount of active ingredient, sumatriptan, and is in the same pre filled pen as the Sun-Pharma. This means that you should have the same effect from using Clustran as you did from using Sun-Pharma.
Medsafe, the agency that approves medicines for use in New Zealand, carefully considered the safety and effectiveness of Clustran before approving it.
You shouldn’t notice any difference when you change to Clustran. If you do notice any changes of side effects, please talk with your doctor about it.
