Supply issue Section 29A Active

Both Dr Reddy’s omeprazole injection 40mg ampoule (Pharmacode: 2310201) and the alternative, Ocicure (Pharmacode: 2586908) are affected by supply issues.

Ocicure (Pharmacode: 2586908) is expected to run out before the end of June 2026, about when the next shipment should be available. There may a short period where the supplier is unable to supply Ocicure brand omeprazole injections.

We are working to confirm when the registered Dr Reddy's omeprazole will be available again.

The supplier advises that both the following product and the temporarily funded section 29 alternative are affected by supply issues:

Unaffected products

Other presentations of omeprazole are unaffected by this issue. The 10, 20, and 40 mg capsules and powder omeprazole remain available.

The section 29 alternative has been previously supplied. Stock may run out in late June/early July before the next shipment is made available.

Prescribing and supplying an unapproved medicine

Section 29A of the Medicines Act 1981 allows for medicines that are not Medsafe approved to be prescribed and supplied to people. 

We know supplying a medicine under section 29A is not ideal. In this case, however, this will allow patients to be able to access an appropriate treatment.

Expected resolution

Ocicure brand is expected to be available again before the end of June 2026.

We are working with the supplier to understand when the registered Dr Reddy's product will be available again.
