Clexane: new ERIS safety lock mechanism
From September 2026, Clexane injections will change to the ERIS safety lock mechanism.
Safer design
The ERIS lock automatically activates a safety shield as the needle is withdrawn. This protects the needle and will reduce the risk of needlestick injuries.
Sanofi, the supplier, has prepared information for people who use the Clexane injections. A pamphlet on how to administer Clexane with the ERIS Lock is available to download from Sanofi's website.
When is this happening?
All new Clexane ERIS Safety Lock products will be listed in the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 September 2026. However, people will move to the new product progressively over the coming months.
The following dates are an indication of when the change will happen.
- September 2026 | Clexane ERIS 60 mg
- October 2026 | Clexane ERIS 20 mg, 80 mg, 100 mg
- November 2026 | Clexane ERIS 40 mg
- January 2027 | Clexane ERIS 150 mg
- February 2027 | Clexane ERIS 120 mg
Information for pharmacists
The new ERIS safety lock products have new Pharmacodes, they will all be listed on 1 September. They have the same pack size and subsidy.
Sanofi has kept the syringe label and box colour for the ERIS Safety Lock syringe the same as the current Preventis Safety Lock.
