Decision to approve agreement for medical devices supplied by Abbott Laboratories NZ Limited
What we’re doing
We are pleased to announce the approval of a listing agreement with Abbott Laboratories NZ Limited (“Abbott Laboratories”) for medical devices in the non-dedicated feeding devices and feeding equipment and associated devices (“Feeding Devices”) categories to Health NZ | Te Whatu Ora (“Health NZ”).
In summary this will result in:
- Abbott Laboratories’ Feeding Devices being listed in Part III of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 September 2025 under a national agreement that all Health NZ hospitals may purchase under; and
- Health NZ hospitals being able to purchase other suppliers’ brands of Feeding Devices as the agreement is not for sole supply.
Any changes to the original proposal?

Detail about this decision
In 2018 Pharmac issued a Request for Proposals (“RFP”) for the supply of feeding devices and/or special foods delivered enterally or orally. This proposal is the final proposal to arise from this RFP process.
The RFP was for non-exclusive national agreements for listing on the Pharmaceutical Schedule. After completing the RFP evaluation processes and consulting on the provisional agreement reached with Abbott Laboratories, Pharmac has decided to approve this agreement with Abbott Laboratories for supply of their Feeding Devices. These medical devices will be listed in Part III of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule under a national agreement from 1 September 2025.
Health NZ hospitals can continue to choose what Feeding Devices they purchase, including those from other suppliers. Health NZ hospitals that purchase products in this category from Abbott Laboratories must do so under the terms and conditions, including pricing, in the Agreement from 1 September 2025.
The list of products will be available on Pharmac’s website from 1 September 2025 in both PDF and Excel formats.
