TruSteel infusion sets: Supply issue

Supply issue Active

There is limited stock of all TruSteel infusion sets. This is a global issue.

Limited availability of TruSteel

The maker of TruSteel infusion sets has had difficulty sourcing a part. This issue affects all TruSteel infusion sets and means there will limited supplies of TruSteel infusion sets for the rest of 2026.

There are a small group of people who can only use TruSteel infusion sets. We ask that people try the AutoSoft set if they can. This will help reserve stock for people who can only use TruSteel.

Information for people who use TruSteel

Your prescriber may suggest that you try AutoSoft infusion sets. These are designed to work with your Tandem insulin pump, like TruSteel.

AutoSoft infusion sets are applied differently and have different priming requirements to TruSteel. You will need advice on how to apply them to ensure correct use.

The supplier, NZMS, has developed some guidance to help you use the Autosoft infusion set.

AutoSoft infusion sets are unaffected by this supply issue. You will need a new prescription to change to AutoSoft infusion sets.

One month dispensing for TruSteel

If you remain on TruSteel, you will only be able to get 1 month's supply of infusion sets at a time. We have changed to monthly dispensing to help manage stock of TruSteel. We're sorry, we know that monthly dispensing can be inconvenient, however, it is necessary to ensure people who need TruSteel infusion sets can continue to access them.

You can get three months' supply of AutoSoft infusion sets.

Information for people who prescribe infusion sets

Please consider switching patients, where clinically appropriate, to an alternate AutoSoft infusion set. Please note the application for these products is different to the TruSteel products and will require training on correct application technique.

Clinical advice indicates the AutoSoft set may not be suitable for everyone, including people sensitive to Teflon. Please prioritise switching everyone who can change so that the limited TruSteel stock can be prioritised for those who cannot transition to an alternate product.

People changing to AutoSoft will need a new prescription.

Guidance for using AutoSoft

The supplier, NZMS, has published guidance and support materials to assist patients transitioning to AutoSoft infusion sets. Further information is available on their website.(external link)

Monthly dispensing

From 1 June, to help manage the limited supply of TruSteel infusion sets, we’ve temporarily changed the Schedule listings to monthly dispensing. This means if patients remain on a TruSteel product, they will now collect only one month’s supply at a time from their pharmacy.
