The supplier has limited the supply of sodium cromoglicate (Ralicrom) 100 mg capsules (Pharmacode: 2628295)

Somex 29 (listed 1 January) should be available from the supplier during the last week of January. It can take another 1 to 2 weeks to reach pharmacies around the country.
Where no brand of sodium cromoglicate is available, people will need to talk to the person who prescribed the Ralicrom about the best alternative.
We have listed two further brands from 1 February 2026 to support this supply issue, they are available to order from the supplier now but are not funded until 1 February.
Affected product
The active ingredient (API) is not currently available, which has delayed the manufacturing of more Ralicrom capsules. The supplier anticipates that it will go out of stock in December 2025.

Prescribing and supplying an unapproved medicine
Section 29A of the Medicines Act 1981 allows for medicines that are not Medsafe approved to be prescribed and supplied to people.
We know supplying a medicine under section 29A is not ideal. In this case, however, this will allow people to continue to access an appropriate treatment.
