There was a supply issue affecting the 12.5 mg Jardiamet (pharmacode 2599732)

Boehringer Ingelheim have advised Pharmac that stock of empagliflozin with metformin hydrochloride (Jardiamet) Tab 12.5 mg with 1,000 mg metformin has been released to wholesalers. It may take another 1 to 2 weeks to reach pharmacies around the motu.

Affected product

Boehringer Ingelheim advises that two separate supply chain issues, combined with an increase in demand, have created an out of stock of: 

  • Chemical: Empagliflozin with metformin hydrochloride 
  • Presentation: Tab 12.5 mg with 1000 mg metformin hydrochloride
  • Brand: Jardiamet
  • Pharmacode: 2599740
  • Subsidy: $58.56
  • Measure / Qty: per 60

Other strengths remain available.

Both Boehringer Ingelheim and Pharmac are working to find a solution so people can continue to access treatment. 

Expected resolution

Boehringer Ingelheim expects the next delivery of the affected product to be available by mid-November 2024.
