Due issues at the manufacturing plant, Mylan brand fluconazole 150 mg capsules (Pharmacode: 2149079) are not available.

We have funded another brand of fluconazole capsules to cover this supply issue from 1 October 2026.

To ensure people can continue to access this treatment, we are funding APO Health Fluconazole One from 1 October 2026. It is not currently Medsafe-approved. It needs to be prescribed and supplied in line with section 29A of the Medicines Act.

Extended pharmacy services
From 1 October, fluconazole 150 mg capsules will be added to the Extended Pharmacy Services (EPS). Unfortunately, Section 29 medicines cannot be supplied through this service. We understand the strong preference for a registered product and are working with the supplier to resolve this.
There are other products funded as part of the extended pharmacy services that treat the same condition.
Prescribing and supplying an unapproved medicine
Section 29A of the Medicines Act 1981 allows for medicines that are not Medsafe approved to be prescribed and supplied to people when there is supply issue affecting the registered brand.
We know supplying an unapproved medicine is not ideal. In this case, however, this will allow people to continue to access an appropriate treatment.
