Dexcom G6 CGM being retired
People who use the funded Dexcom G6 will need to change to a different funded CGM by early 2027.
People who use funded Dexcom G6 CGMs
You will need to talk to your doctor or diabetes specialist team about changing to a new funded CGM. Both the Dexcom G7 and Freestyle Libre 3 Plus work with both funded insulin pumps.
Both funded options work differently from the Dexcom G6.

New prescription needed before 2027
You will need a new prescription to access a new brand of CGM. The Dexcom G6 will stop being funded in early 2027 but you don't need to wait until then.
Why is this happening?
We originally funded the Dexcom G6 to ensure people had two options for CGMs to work with both funded insulin pumps, Tandem and YpsoPump. YpsoPump users could use the Dexcom G6 or Freestyle Libre 3 Plus CGM to create a closed-loop insulin delivery system.
Changes have been made to the Dexcom G7 so that it works with both the YpsoPump and Tandem pump. As a result, the supplier has decided to stop supplying the Dexcom G6.
Pharmacists
Please encourage any patients picking up Dexcom G6 CGMs to talk to their prescriber before the end of the year.
CGM allocations
Each model of CGM has its own maximum number of devices each year. For example, if someone has had four G6 devices, then changes to the G7, they can still have up to 40 devices (9 every 3 months) until their Special Authority anniversary.
A person's CGM allocation resets on the anniversary of their Special Authority being issued.
