People who take Daonil

Please talk to the person who prescribes your medicine before February 2027. They will be able to discuss the best approach to help manage your diabetes.

We are aware that there is a small group of people who cannot change from glibenclamide, because it is the best treatment for their specific type of diabetes.

Your prescriber can apply to Pharmac to get this medicine funded for you specifically. This process is called the Named Patient Pharmaceutical Assessment (NPPA). Please talk to your prescriber about this option if it is relevant.

Health care professionals

Please talk to anyone you prescribe glibenclamide for before February 2027. If they are to continue receiving funded treatment, you will need to prescribe a different medicine or apply for individual funding.

There may be a small number of people that cannot move to other treatment. Please consider applying for a Named Patient Pharmaceutical Assessment (NPPA) so your patient can continue to access funded glibenclamide.
