Ultraproct ointment and suppositories: Out of stock
Ultraproct ointment and suppositories are a combination corticosteroid and soothing agent. They are used to treat haemorrhoids.
The active ingredients are fluocortolone caproate with fluocortolone pivalate and cinchocaine.
The supplier AFT have informed us that:
- the suppository is out of stock
- the ointment is likely to be out of stock from late July.
The supplier is expecting both products to be back in stock by early November.
We appreciate that it is not always easy to change patients onto different medicines. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this out of stock.
Information for people taking Ultraproct
If you have a repeat prescription for Ultraproct, you will need to contact your prescriber to discuss alternatives. There are alternative funded options available so you won’t need to pay more than you currently do.
Information for prescribers
Please do not start any new patients on Ultraproct suppositories or ointment. We are advising people already taking Ultraproct to contact their prescriber to discuss alternative options.
A funded alternative is hydrocortisone with cinchocaine (Proctosedyl). Proctosedyl is available as both ointment and suppositories and is listed in the Pharmaceutical Schedule. The choice of treatment will depend on individual patient’s circumstances.
Proctosedyl is a combination corticosteroid and soothing agent haemorrhoid preparation. Proctosedyl contains a different corticosteroid to Ultraproct and the same soothing agent. Proctosedyl is a funded product that has previously been used as an alternative to Ultraproct.
Information for pharmacists
Patients with a repeat prescription for Ultraproct will need to contact their prescriber to discuss alternatives and get a new prescription for a different product where relevant.
