Montelukast tab 10 mg: Supply issue
Mylan has advised PHARMAC of a short-term supply issue affecting its brand of montelukast tab 10 mg (Pharmacode 2565951).
Mylan is expecting a resupply in July 2020.
Use two 5 mg tablets instead
Where a pharmacy can't dispense montelukast 10 mg tabs, they can dispense two 5 mg tabs instead.
If the pharmacist needs to dispense two 5 mg, they must annotate the prescription with “out of stock (OOS)” or similar.
This approach is in line with 3.4.2 of the General Rules.
There is enough stock of the 5 mg tablets
The montelukast tab 5 mg presentation (Pharmacode 2565943) remains available. We understand there is sufficient stock for this to be used as an alternative.
We ask pharmacists to tell your patients about the impact of this change on their dosing regimen.
We appreciate pharmacists' help in managing this short-term supply issue.
