Fluoxetine: Supply issue resolved
Fluoxetine hydrochloride is a widely used antidepressant medicine.
There are two funded forms available, a 20 mg capsule and a 20 mg dispersible tablet.
Supply of fluoxetine capsules 20mg is available. We expect the Arrow brand to be supplied until approximately September 2020 when the Fluox brand is expected to become available.
We understand Fluox tablets have been distributed since mid-June 2020.
Update about funding: 3 August 2020
Arrow-Fluoxetine cap 20 mg (Pharmacode 2450860) remains fully funded.
We are aware that this does not show up in the August 2020 online Pharmaceutical Schedule. PHARMAC has sent patches through to Toniq and RxOne and your dispensing software should show this Pharmacode as fully funded.
Arrow-Fluoxetine caps will remain fully funded for the month of August at least.
We apologise for any inconvenience.
There were previous stock shortages of both the tablets and capsules earlier this year, which were resolved once shipments arrived. The earlier capsule shortage placed pressure on the stock of tablets which were used as an alternative.
There are approximately 76,000 people taking the capsules and approximately 19,000 people taking the dispersible tablets. The tablets are prescribed for patients who cannot swallow capsules or for use in a daily dose that needs a half tablet.
