Salbutamol with ipratropium bromide (Duolin): Supply issue
The supplier has notified PHARMAC that their Duolin inhaler is out of stock.
The inhaler is a mix of salbutamol 100 mcg and ipratropium 20 mcg. There has been a temporary delay on the Duolin inhaler stock arriving into New Zealand due to delays in manufacturing and delivery caused by COVID-19.
The supplier is making every effort with the manufacturer to organise stock delivery as soon as possible.
We understand that Rex Medical, the supplier, has communicated directly to pharmacies about this stock shortage.
One Duolin inhaler is the equivalent of:
- an Atrovent® inhaler and
- a salbutamol inhaler.
The person needs to take one puff of Atrovent® inhaler 20 mcg and one puff of salbutamol 100 mcg inhaler. This is the same as one puff of Duolin inhaler.
We understand that this solution means two co-payments and is less convenient than one Duolin inhaler. We apologise but this is the only resolution to ensure people can access the medicine they need.
