Child health and immunisation update
Location: PHARMAC, Wellington
Associate Professor Karen Hoare will facilitate this seminar.
Dr Anne Tait is a Consultant General Paediatrician at Starship hospital. She will be discussing the conditions that she is commonly referred from primary care. These include constipation, failure to thrive, chronic cough, behavioural issues and other conditions of childhood that primary health care practitioners will find useful for refreshing their knowledge and skills.
Additionally, Associate Professor Karen Hoare will discuss the main presenting symptoms children come to primary care with, and how using the ‘3-minute toolkit’ can shift the very sick child who needs hospital admission to the one that can be sent home safely with anticipatory guidance.
Strategies to manage feverish children in the primary care setting will also be discussed.
Dr Nikki Turner will be giving an update on childhood immunisations and the new proposed schedule, including discussion about adult vaccines. As a member of the WHO SAGE committee, she will also disseminate information on vaccines from a global perspective.
Audience: GPs, NPs, Registered Nurses and Pharmacists.
