Decision to list medical devices supplied by Teleflex Medical New Zealand

What we’re doing
We are pleased to announce the approval of non-exclusive listing agreements with Teleflex Medical New Zealand (“Teleflex”) for the supply of endomechanical and electrosurgical products and respiratory equipment and consumables to DHBs (“Agreements”).
These Agreements will result in listing 61 of Teleflex’s endomechancial and electrosurgical products and 64 respiratory equipment and consumables being listed in Part III of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 October 2019.
DHBs will be able to continue to purchase other suppliers’ brands of endomechancial and electrosurgical products and respiratory equipment and consumables as the Agreements are not for sole supply.
Any changes to the original proposal?
No changes have been made to either of the Agreements as a result of the consultation feedback.

Details about this decision
In 2017 and 2018 PHARMAC issued Request for Proposals (“RFP’s”) for:
- Supply of respiratory equipment and consumables (including respiratory suction) and
- Supply of endomechanical instruments, electrosurgical instruments, energy platforms and consumable products.
The RFPs were for non-exclusive national agreements for listing on the Pharmaceutical Schedule.
After evaluating Teleflex’s proposals to each RFP, and consulting on the provisional agreements reached, PHARMAC has decided to list Teleflex’s endomechanical and electrosurgical products and respiratory equipment and consumables, in Part III of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 October 2019.

We appreciate the time people took to respond to this consultation.
All consultation responses received by 21 August 2019 were considered in their entirety in making the decision to approve Teleflex’s Agreements.
A summary of the main themes raised in feedback and our responses to the feedback are set out below:
Advised no technical or resource impacts are expected as a result of the proposal.
Noted that the 2016 DHB volume and expenditure data provided to DHB Procurement Managers for Teleflex’s respiratory equipment and consumables products was out of date and requested updated DHB volume and expenditure data.
Updated DHB volume and expenditure data for Teleflex’s respiratory equipment and consumables was provided by Teleflex and provided to appropriate DHB personnel upon the release of this notification.
