Initial 18 June 2020 supply issue notice
Short supply of Estradot
The supplier of the currently funded oestradiol patches, Novartis New Zealand Limited, has notified PHARMAC of the expected supply shortage of its Estradot patches.
Alternate brand: Climara
Climara has been sourced as an alternate brand of oestradiol patches 50 mcg per 24 hours and 100 mcg per 24 hours.
You can substitute:
- Climara (50 mcg per 24 hours) for Estradot 50 (50 mcg per day) and
- Climara (100 mcg per 24 hours) for Estradot (100 mcg per day).
Dosing regimen difference
Note that there is a difference in dosing regimen between the two patches.
- Estradot should be applied every 3 to 4 days (i.e. twice weekly)
- Climara should be applied every 7 days (i.e. once weekly).
Quantity restriction: 1 patch per week
Due to the dosing difference, we've restricted Climara patches to no more than 1 patch per week in the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 July 2020
Check the Medsafe data sheet for each brand.
