Annual Procurement Plan – what’s next?
PHARMAC’s Annual Procurement Plan (APP) lists expected procurements for the next 12 months. It’s on our website, and we update it at the beginning of March and the beginning of November each year.
While it isn't exhaustive, and some opportunities may not end up going ahead as planned, the Annual Procurement Plan will give you an idea of what’s coming up.
Getting the RFPs
All requests for proposals (RFPs) are listed on both:
- PHARMAC’s website and
- the New Zealand Government Electronic Tenders Service (GETS) website(external link).
GETS has limited options for capturing details within the RFP headline description, so we advise suppliers to read the RFP details to confirm the scope of products we’re seeking to contract.
Consultation on the next stage in our management of DHB hospital medical devices
In March 2019, PHARMAC will begin consulting on the way we’ll work with DHBs, suppliers and others to manage fairer access to medical devices that are purchased by DHBs hospitals for use within hospitals or in the community.
The consultation will be live from 5 March on our website.
The next stage of our management would see PHARMAC decide what DHB hospital medical devices the Government funds. Each DHB would determine what devices they use to deliver local services, choosing the most appropriate devices from a national medical devices list.
We’ll be seeking feedback on key questions such as:
- how we can ensure we get sound external advice from a range of healthcare and other professionals to inform decisions about what is on and off the list;
- the proposed approach to dealing with exceptional circumstances; and
- how we can keep working together to develop and implement the new approach.
The new approach would apply to diverse products and equipment including consumable and durable products, implantables and complex equipment – everything from a cotton swab to an orthopaedic implant or home dialysis machine.
The broad outline of the approach reflects significant engagement work with the health sector as well as previous consultations.
