PHARMAC Board
Membership
The PHARMAC Board consists of six members (the Chair, and five Board Directors).

Richard Waddel (Chair)

Richard has a wealth of business experience and knowledge. His background is in accountancy; business advisory and consulting, and he has held a large number of directorships in private and public companies and Government organisations. Richard was a partner for 34 years in Ernst & Young where he was Chief Executive for 11 years, with responsibility for the overall direction, strategic planning and marketing of services for the firm. His current appointments include Chairman of PHARMAC, New Zealand Finance Holdings Limited, Auckland Festival Trust and Kidicorp Group Ltd. Richard is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and an accredited fellow of the Institute of Directors. He is a past Chairman of Auckland District Health Board and past Director of Canterbury Health Ltd, Healthlink South Ltd and Health Benefits Ltd. Richard joined the PHARMAC Board in July 2000 and his current membership expires on 29 June 2010. |
Stuart McLauchlan (Deputy Chair)

Stuart is a practicing Chartered Accountant specialising in business advisory and governance. He has been a partner for 25 years in the firm G S McLauchlan where he held the position of Managing Partner for 24 of those years. He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and an Accredited Director of the Institute of Directors. He has a large portfolio of directorships in private, public and council owned companies as well as Government organisations. His current appointments include Chairman of Scott Technology & NZ Sports Hall of Fame. Stuart is a Director of the following; A D Instruments Pty Ltd, Aurora Energy Limited, City Bus Limited, City Forests Limited, Delta Utility Services Limited, Dunedin Casinos Ltd, Dunedin City Holdings Limited, Dunedin International Airport, Otago & Southland Employers Assn and Scenic Circle Hotels Ltd. Stuart is Pro-Chancellor of the University of Otago and has recently been appointed the Crown Monitor of the Southland District Health Board. Stuart joined the PHARMAC Board in August 2009 and his current membership expires on 31 July 2012. |
Kura Denness

Kura Denness MBA CA has a background in corporate finance. She is Chair of the following organisations: Tui Ora Limited, Hauora Taranaki PHO Limited, and Te Aroha Medcare (a GP practice). In addition, she is a Director of Medical Laboratory Science Board, Medical Sciences Secretariat and on the Taranaki DHB. She is also a trustee of various iwi organisations. Kura is Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee, is a member of the Forecast Committee and the Maori caucus. Kura is of Atiawa descent. Kura joined the PHARMAC Board in August 2006 and her current membership expires on 31 July 2012. |
Dr David Kerr

David is a medical practitioner with 32 years in general practice, a special interest in the area of mental health, and extensive governance experience. David was the Founding Chair of Pegasus Health and is currently Clinical Leader Mental Health, Pegasus Health (2002 to present), Chair of CentreCare Ltd (1998 to present), and was previously Director (1994 to 1999) and now Chair (1999 to present) of Ryman Health Care Ltd. He is a member of Canterbury District Health Board's (CDHB's) Mental Health Leadership Group and the CDHB Hospital Advisory Committee (2002 to present). Recent directorships include Canterbury Health (1999 to 2001), Healthcare Otago Ltd (2000 to 2001) and Health Benefits Ltd (2000 to 2002).He is an advisor to the Medical Protection Society and to the CDHB through the Canterbury Initiative. David's voluntary service includes NZ Alzheimers Board (2004 to present), the Health Education Trust (2000 to present), the Central Ethics Committee, President New Zealand Medical Association 2008), Ryman Healthcare Ltd (1994 to 1999), and Trustee of the Life Education Trust South Island (1988 to 1998). David joined the PHARMAC Board in July 2007 and his current membership expires on 31 July 2010. |
David Moore

David Moore is a health economist and financial advisor, and is Managing Director for LECG Asia Pacific. David has held a number of senior positions in the New Zealand health sector since 1992, including founding and managing PHARMAC; and extensive management of hospitals and primary care as General Manager of the Personal Health operating group of the Health Funding Authority. David is a Director of the Crown Health Financing Asia, LECG Ltd, is a member of the Ngai Tahu investment sub-committee and is a ministerially appointed member of the Health Information Strategy Advisory Committee. David is of Ngai Tahu descent. David holds a MComm (hons), a Dip Health Ec and is a CA. David joined the PHARMAC Board in July 2000 and his current term expires on 31 July 2010. |
Adrienne von Tunzelmann

Adrienne is a Principal in McKinlay Douglas Ltd, a Tauranga-based consulting practice specialising in public policy, governance and strategic development across the health, tertiary education, housing, science and technology and local government sectors. Adrienne's public sector career included senior roles in key areas of government social and economic policy reform. She is a former Deputy Clerk of the House of Representatives and head of Parliament's Select Committee Office, and has held senior management positions in The Treasury and Department of Justice. As well her role as a PHARMAC board director, Adrienne currently sits on the boards of Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi Council and the University of Waikato Foundation. She has just completed a term as a trustee of the Bay of Plenty Community Trust (where she chaired the Audit Committee) and is a recent Past President of the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce. She is Patron of the Tauranga Community Housing Trust (which holds a substantial and expanding property portfolio providing housing for disadvantaged people) and was a long-standing chair of the NZ Women's Refuge Foundation. Adrienne has a First Class Hons degree in Economics from Canterbury University and a Master of Public Policy from Victoria University of Wellington. She holds the Institute of Directors' Certificate in Company Directorship and is a graduate of advanced management programmes in New Zealand and overseas (including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management). Adrienne joined the PHARMAC Board in July 2000 and her current membership expires on 31 July 2010. |
