Proposal relating to betamethasone diproprionate with calcipotriol, calcipotriol, fusidic acid and bumetanide approved

PHARMAC is pleased to announce the approval of an agreement with CSL Biotherapies (NZ) Limited. This was the subject of a consultation letter dated 22 September 2011 which can be found at: http://www.pharmac.govt.nz/2011/09/22/2011-09-22. In summary, the effect of the decision is that, from 1 December 2011:  Betamethasone diproprionate with calcipotriol (Daivobet) ointment and gel will be subsidised. The price and subsidy for calcipotriol (Daivonex) cream, ointment and solution will be reduced, remaining full subsidised. The price for fusidic acid (Fucithalmic) eye drops will be reduced to the current subsidy resulting in Fucithalmic being fully subsidised. Fusidic acid (Fucidin) tablets and bumetanide (Burinex) tablets will remain fully subsidised at the current price. All pharmaceuticals involved in this decision will have subsidy and delisting protection until 30 June 2015.

Details of the decision All changes will occur from 1 December 2011 and all the pharmaceuticals included in this decision will have subsidy and delisting protection until 30 June 2015. Betamethasone diproprionate with calcipotriol (Daivobet) Daivobet ointment and gel will be listed in Section B and Part II of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule as follows (ex-manufacturer, excluding GST):

entirety in making a decision on the proposed changes. All responses were supportive of the proposal. One responder queried why the consultation did not include the 30 g Daivonex Ointment and 60 ml Daivonex solution. We note that the supplier has indicated that these presentations will be discontinued at the exhaustion of the current stock in the country. The price and subsidy of these presentations will not change as a result of this proposal.
