Proposal to amend the terms of listing for efavirenz
Following a request to pharmaceutical suppliers for commercial proposals as an alternative to tendering certain pharmaceuticals for sole supply, PHARMAC and Merck Sharp and Dohme (New Zealand) Limited (MSD) have entered into a provisional agreement that would amend the terms of listing of efavirenz (Stocrin). PHARMAC is now seeking feedback on this proposal. Details of the proposal
Stocrin would be listed in Part II of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule and remain listed in Section B of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 January 2012 at the following prices and subsidies (ex-manufacturer, excluding GST):
Chemical Efavirenz Efavirenz Efavirenz Presentation 50 mg tablet 200 mg tablet 600 mg tablet Brand Stocrin Stocrin Stocrin Pack size 30 90 30 Price and subsidy $158.33 $474.99 $474.99
A confidential rebate would apply to all community dispensing of Stocrin which would reduce its net price. All presentations of Stocrin would have subsidy and delisting protection until 30 June 2015. Stocrin would remain funded in the community subject to the Special Authority currently applying to all antiretrovirals

All feedback received before the closing date will be considered by PHARMAC’s Board (or Acting Chief Executive acting under delegated authority) prior to making a decision on this proposal.
