16 June 2011 July 2011 Pharmaceutical Schedule Dispatch (4 pages) This document is provided to pharmacists as an early notification of the changes to be announced in the July 2011 Update to the Pharmaceutical Schedule. Please notify PHARMAC (0800 66 00 50) to change or remove your contact details. SYMBICORT AND OXIS CLARIFICATION Due to the recent subsidy changes for Oxis and Symbicort Turbuhaler (all strengths) an endorsement now applies from 1 July 2011. Our intention is to ensure that all current patients who have received a subsidised prescription or who have been dispensed Symbicort or Oxis prior to the 1st of July 2011 remain fully funded. This measure will be in place while PHARMAC takes time to consider options for managing subsidies for these medicines on an ongoing basis. Patients who have had prior Special Authority approvals and dispensing before 1 July 2011 will be entitled to full subsidy as long as the prescription is endorsed by the pharmacist or the doctor. o If a patient has a subsidised prescription that was initiated prior to 1 July 2011, the repeats are fully subsidised. For those patients who have had prior subsidised dispensing to 1 July 2011 and who have a current Special Authority (Symbicort only) and present with a new prescription for Oxis or Symbicort after 1 July 2011 the pharmacist may annotate the prescription to indicate the patient has had prior dispensings of (Oxis or Symbicort). For new patients to your pharmacy that have had Symbicort and/or Oxis dispensed fully subsidised prior to 1 July 2011 the pharmacist must contact the prescriber or previous pharmacy to verify prescribing history. A record of this must be kept electronically on the patients file and the script must be annotated accordingly. Patients with a new Special Authority number (Symbicort only) and a prescription for Symbicort and/or Oxis dated before 1 July will be entitled to fully subsidy with endorsement, even if the prescription is presented to the pharmacy after 1 July 2011 Patients who have no history of either Oxis or Symbicort (i.e. new patients) and who have a prescription dated after 1 July 2011 will only be entitled to the partially subsidy and a part charge will apply. Patients will still require a valid Special Authority approval to access the partial subsidy.
