Approval of increase for price and subsidy of nitrofurantoin

PHARMAC is pleased to announce that the approval of an agreement with W M Bamford Bamford & Co Limited for a price and subsidy increase on its brand of nitrofurantoin, Nifuran, in Section B of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 October 2010. Nitrofurantoin is an antibiotic that is usually used in treating urinary tract infections.

Details of the proposal · the price and subsidy of nitrofurantoin tablets listed in Section B of the Pharmaceutical Schedule will increase from 1 October 2010 as follows (ex-manufacturer, excluding GST):

no further increases to the price of nitrofurantoin tablets would occur prior to 31 July 2013. Nitrofurantoin is not subject to subsidy or delisting protection, and a proposal to include it in the Invitation to Tender 2010 was recently consulted on.
