API Consumer Brands agreement for dermatologicals approved

PHARMAC is pleased to announce that the approval of an agreement with API Consumer Brands (API) for a range of dermatological products. This was the subject of a consultation letter dated 16 July 2010. In summary, the effect of the decision is that: · a range of chlorhexidine and iodine containing antiseptics, and some dermatological preparations, will be listed from 1 November 2010, in Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule; API’s brand of triclosan solution will be listed in Section B and Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule, following completion of stability studies to support shelf life claims.

None of the products will have Hospital Supply Status. Details of the decision The details of the decision are as consulted on in our letter of 16 July 20101, with the addition of original pack (OP) status for triclosan 500 ml. API’s triclosan will be listed following completion of some stability testing, which is expected to be completed towards the end of this year. The remainder of the products will be listed from 1 November 2010. Following a request during consultation, we have also decided to list the triclosan 500 ml pack as an OP in Section B of the Pharmaceutical Schedule. A listing as OP will take effect on 1 September 2010 for the healthE brand of triclosan, which is already subsidised, and as a result of the decision will also apply to the API brand from the date it is listed. Feedback received We appreciate all of the feedback that we received and acknowledge the time people took to respond. All consultation responses received by 31 July 2010 were considered in their entirety in making a decision on the proposed changes. Most responses were supportive of the proposal.
