PHARMAC is pleased to announce the approval of a proposal to reference price the subsidy of loperamide hydrochloride tablets to the subsidy of loperamide hydrochloride capsules. This was the subject of a consultation letter dated 30 July 20101.

Details of the change From 1 December 2010, reference pricing of loperamide hydrochloride tablets will be applied as follows:

Chemical Loperamide hydrochloride Presentation 2 mg tablet Brand Nodia Pack size 400 Current subsidy and price $11.50 New subsidy $8.95

Feedback received We appreciate all of the feedback that we received and acknowledge the time people took to respond. All consultation responses received by 13 August 2010 were considered in their entirety in making a decision on the proposed changes. Most responses were supportive of the proposal. In addition, the supplier of Nodia tablets (Multichem) has notified PHARMAC that it will be reducing its price to match the new subsidy so that Nodia tablets will remain fully subsidised.
