Donepezil funding to start from 1 November 2010

As previously notified on 5 May 2010, the PHARMAC Board approved the funding of the Donepezil-Rex brand of donepezil hydrochloride for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia as soon as possible following Medsafe registration. Donepezil-Rex is now registered and funding will start on 1 November 2010, as detailed below.

Details of the funding · Donepezil-Rex will be listed in Section B and in Part II of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 November 2010 at the following prices and subsidies (as applicable, ex-manufacturer, excluding GST):

From 1 November 2010, prescriptions for donepezil hydrochloride must be dispensed ‘stat’ (all-at-once). Donepezil-Rex will be the sole subsidised supply brand of donepezil hydrochloride, and will have Hospital Supply Status, from 1 November 2010 until 30 June 2012. Donepezil-Rex will be listed in Section B of the Pharmaceutical Schedule without Special Authority or prescriber-specific restrictions, meaning that it will be subsidised when prescribed by any clinician for any condition.
