Listing of sodium bicarbonate capsules

PHARMAC is pleased to announce the approval of an agreement with Aspen Pharmacare Australia Pty Ltd relating to sodium bicarbonate capsules (Sodibic). This was the subject of a consultation letter dated 2 July 20101. The decision will mean that sodium bicarbonate 840 mg capsules (Sodibic) will be fully funded from 1 September 2010, without any restriction in regard to indication. We have received applications for funding sodium bicarbonate for the treatment of metabolic acidosis associated with chronic renal failure.

Details of the proposal Sodium bicarbonate 840 mg capsules (Sodibic) will be listed in Section B and in Part II of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 September 2010 at the following price and subsidy (ex-manufacturer, excluding GST):

All consultation responses received by 16 July 2010 were considered in their entirety before making a decision on the proposed changes. All responses received were supportive of the proposal.
