Notification of tramadol funding decision

PHARMAC is pleased to announce its decision to fund tramadol hydrochloride 50 mg capsules from 1 June 2010, as a result of awarding the Invitation to Tender dated 21 December 2007 (2007/08 Tender) to the Arrow-Tramadol brand. Please note that there are other strengths and presentations of tramadol, including sustained-release tablets, oral liquid and injections, which are not currently funded. We are considering re-tendering some or all of these presentations in the 2010/2011 tender round.

Details of the decision · The Arrow-Tramadol brand of tramadol hydrochloride 50 mg capsules will be listed in Section B, and in Part II of Section H, of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 June 2010 at the following price and subsidy (ex-manufacturer, excluding GST):

Arrow-Tramadol will be fully funded without restriction; and Arrow-Tramadol will have Sole Supply Status from 1 September 2010 to 30 June 2011 and Hospital Supply Status from 1 August 2010 to 30 June 2011, with a 1% discretionary variance limit.

A summary of this decision will also be included in the April Tender Notification, in line with the usual tender notification timelines.
