Proposed changes to listings for Radiological Contrast Media

PHARMAC is seeking feedback on two separate provisional agreements (with GE Healthcare and Bayer New Zealand Limited) relating to the listing of radiological contrast media in Part II of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule. In summary, these two proposals would result in, from 1 January 2010: In the category of CT contrast media: • • price reductions for Omnipaque, and Visipaque in exchange for Hospital Supply Status until 30 June 2012; and continued listing of Gastrografin (oral use).

In the category of Magnetic Resonance contrast media: • • • listing of Omniscan; continued listing of Magnevist; and listing of Gadovist.

Gadovist would be subject to a confidential discount on invoice arrangement. No brand of Magnetic Resonance contrast media would have Hospital Supply Status, so DHB Hospitals would be able to choose which brands (including unlisted brands) they would like to purchase.

Details of the proposal We are proposing to accept two provisional agreements; one from Bayer New Zealand Limited, and the other from GE Healthcare Limited. Details of each are below:

Bayer Agreement The following pharmaceuticals would be listed in Part II of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 January 2010 at the prices set out below (all prices are ex-manufacturer and exclusive of GST):

Gadovist would be the subject to a discount on invoice arrangement. These products would not have Hospital Supply Status, so DHB Hospitals would have discretion to purchase other brands of Magnetic Resonance contrast media and CT contrast media. Orders from DHB Hospitals of values less than $1,000 would attract a charge for freight.
