Termination of Fensic (fentanyl transdermal patch) agreement

PHARMAC wishes to advise that the agreement it had entered into with Mylan New Zealand Ltd (formerly Pacific Pharmaceuticals) for the supply of Fensic (fentanyl transdermal patches) has been terminated due to a delay in the registration of Fensic. Following registration and a transition period, Fensic was to have become the sole funded brand of fentanyl transdermal patches through to 30 June 2011. The commencement of a period of sole subsidised supply would have been accompanied by widening of funded access to fentanyl transdermal patches via removal of the Special Authority that currently applies. PHARMAC intends to run another competitive process for the supply of fentanyl transdermal patches. In the meantime, there will be no changes to the current listing of the Durogesic brand, which will remain fully funded subject to the current Special Authority for subsidy.
