Proposal to list a new brand of amoxycillin 125 mg per 5 ml suspension

PHARMAC is seeking feedback on a proposal to fund Sandoz Pty Limited’s brand of amoxycillin granules for oral liquid 125 mg per 5 ml (Ospamox) from 1 December 2009. In summary, this proposal would result in: § The Ospamox brand of amoxycillin granules for oral liquid 125 mg per 5 ml would be listed in section B of the of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 December 2009, Subsidy and delisting protection for Ospamox granules for oral liquid 125 mg per 5 ml until 1 July 2012.

Details of the proposal PHARMAC and Sandoz Pty Limited have entered into a provisional agreement relating to the supply of amoxycillin granules for oral liquid 125 mg per 5 ml (Ospamox). Ospamox would be listed, in the Infections – Agents for Systemic Use therapeutic group, in Section B of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 December 2009 at the following prices and subsidies (ex-manufacturer and exclusive of GST):

Chemical Amoxycillin

Presentation 125 mg per 5 ml granules for oral liquid

Brand Ospamox

Pack size 100ml

Price and subsidy $1.55

Up to 200 ml would be available on a Practitioner’s Supply Order. Ospamox (125 mg per 5 ml) would have subsidy and delisting protection until 1 July 2012.

Background PHARMAC currently funds amoxycillin granules for oral liquid 125 mg per 5 ml and 250 mg per 5 ml without restriction. Amoxycillin 125 mg per 5 ml was included in the 2008/09 Invitation to Tender. The decline of all tenders for amoxicillin 125 mg per 5 ml was notified on 31 July 2009. This proposal would secure supply of amoxycillin granules for oral liquid 125 mg per 5 ml until at least 1 July 2012.
