healthE Fatty Cream (oil in water emulsion) funding approved

PHARMAC is pleased to announce the approval of a supply agreement with Jaychem Industries Ltd for oil in water emulsion cream (healthE Fatty Cream). The supplier of Lemnis Fatty Cream (CSL Biotherapies) has given notice of its discontinuation and that the remaining stock is nearly depleted. The listing of healthE Fatty Cream, which is made to the same formulation as Lemnis Fatty Cream, will ensure that a funded form of the emollient remains available for those who need it.

Summary of the decision

healthE Fatty Cream will be fully funded in Section B and Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 August 2009 at a subsidy and price of $2.80 per 500 g (ex-manufacturer, excluding GST). In response to the rapid stock depletion of Lemnis Fatty Cream, we have been able to work with the supplier to bring forward the availability of stock from 1 October to the second week of August. To prevent the need for a mid-month listing we will be listing healthE Fatty Cream from 1 August, however note that stock is not expected to be available until the second week of August. What feedback was received?

We appreciate the feedback we received in response to consultation and acknowledge the time people took to respond. Responses were supportive towards the continued funding of this emollient on the Pharmaceutical Schedule with many responders noting the usefulness of this product in treating skin diseases.
