Proposal relating to the terms of listing of terazosin 1 mg (ApoTerazosin)
PHARMAC is seeking feedback on a proposal to list Apotex’s brand of terazosin hydrochloride 1 mg tablet (Apo-Terazosin) in the Pharmaceutical Schedule. This proposal would mean that Apotex would supply the whole range of terazosin tablets (1 mg, 2 mg and 5 mg tablets - we have recently notified the acceptance of Apotex to be the sole supplier of terazosin 2 mg and 5 mg tablets from 1 October 2009). Details of the proposal Apotex’s brand of terazosin hydrochloride 1 mg tablet (Apo-Terazosin) would be listed in Section B of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 May 2009 as follows:
Chemical Terazosin hydrochloride Presentation Tab 1 mg Brand Apo-Terazosin Pack size 28 Proposed price and subsidy $2.50

All feedback received before the closing date will be considered by PHARMAC’s Board (or Chief Executive acting under delegated authority) prior to making a decision on this proposal. Background Terazosin hydrochloride is used in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia and hypertension. The 1 mg tablet is used as the starting dose (in order to minimise the risk of severe hypotensive effects) and in dose titration.
