Agreement with AstraZeneca for water for injection and Marcain with adrenaline approved

PHARMAC is pleased to announce the approval of an agreement with AstraZeneca for the listing of water for injection, and Hospital Supply Status for Marcain with adrenaline in Section H from 1 July 2009. Water for injection will also be listed on Section B of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 July 2009. This agreement arose as a result of our Alternative Commercial Proposal process, in which we invite alternatives to tendering. We had proposed tendering bupivicaine with adrenaline.

Details of the decision

Water for injection · AstraZeneca’s brand of water for injection will be listed in Part II of Section H and Section B of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 July 2009 as follows:

AstraZeneca’s brand of water for injection will remain listed on Part II of Section H until at least 30 June 2012.

Marcain with adrenaline · AstraZeneca’s brand of bupivicaine with adrenaline will be listed in Part II of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 July 2009 as follows:

Pharmaceutical Bupivacaine with adrenaline Bupivacaine with adrenaline Brand Inj 0.5% with 1:200,000 adrenaline, 20 ml Inj 0.25% with 1:400,000 adrenaline, 10 ml Form and Strength Marcain with adrenaline Marcain with adrenaline Pack Size 5 5 Price $115.40 $134.76

Marcain with adrenaline will have Hospital Supply Status from 1 September 2009 until 30 June 2011 with a DV Limit of 1%.

What feedback was received?

We appreciate all the feedback we received and acknowledge the time people took to respond. All consultation responses received by 2 December 2008 were considered in their entirety in making a decision on the proposed changes. The majority of responses were supportive of the proposal; there were some responses of a commercial nature to which we will respond directly.
