Notification of Pharmaceutical Schedule changes

Listing a wider range of Marquis brand condoms

From 1 August 2008, a wider range of the Marquis brand of latex condoms will be listed in Section B of the Pharmaceutical Schedule. Why the changes are happening PHARMAC undertook a review the range of condoms that are subsidised through the Pharmaceutical Schedule. As a result of this review process, we identified a perceived need for a wider range of condoms; subsequent negotiations with condoms suppliers has resulted in a number of agreements to list such a wider range at a price 10% below the previous level. This will be the third such agreement, with changes to the range of Shield and Gold Knight brands having been notified previously. Details of the changes Further to our consultation letter of 4 May 2008, PHARMAC is pleased to announce that the range of subsidised condoms will be increasing from 1 August 2008, with the addition of the following products:

We note that the prices of the existing range of Marquis condoms, as below, will be reduced from 1 July 2008 in line with subsidy reductions as a result of reference pricing.
