PHARMAC consultation Proposal to list clomipramine
Proposal summary PHARMAC is proposing to list new brands of the antiparkinson agent bromocriptine mesylate and the antidepressant clomipramine hydrochloride in the Pharmaceutical Schedule. These listings are proposed because the existing brands of these medicines are being discontinued by the current suppliers. PHARMAC has actively sought alternatives to ensure that patients continue to have access to these medicines. Feedback sought We welcome your feedback on this proposal. All feedback received before the closing date will be considered by PHARMAC’s Board (or Chief Executive acting under delegated authority) before making a decision on this proposal. Details of the proposal We have entered into a provisional agreement with Apotex NZ Limited: · Bromocriptine mesylate 2.5 mg and 5 mg (Apo-Bromocriptine) would be listed in Section B of the Pharmaceutical Schedule fully subsidised at $32.08 per 100 tablets and $60.43 per 100 capsules, respectively (ex-manufacturer, excluding GST). The listing would be timed to coincide with discontinuation of the current brand of bromocriptine mesylate 2.5 mg and 10 mg (Alpha-Bromocriptine) in about a year. The listing of Apo-Bromocriptine 5 mg would be subject to Medsafe registration. Clomipramine hydrochloride 10 mg and 25 mg (Apo-Clomipramine) would be listed in Section B of the Pharmaceutical Schedule fully subsidised at $12.60 per 100 tablets and $43.42 per 500 tablets, respectively (ex-manufacturer, excluding GST). The listing would be timed to coincide with discontinuation of the current brand of clomipramine hydrochloride 10 mg and 25 mg (Clopress) in the middle of 2009. The listing of Apo-Clomipramine would be subject to Medsafe registration. Apo-Bromocriptine and Apo-Clomipramine would have protection from subsidy reduction and delisting until 1 July 2012.
