PHARMAC consultation Proposal to fund a new co-trimoxazole oral liquid to replace the existing product being discontinued Proposal summary Due to the intention of the current supplier of co-trimoxazole oral liquid to discontinue its product (Trisul) at the end of 2008, PHARMAC has reached a provisional agreement with AFT Pharmaceuticals Limited for the supply and funding of its brand of co-trimoxazole liquid (Deprim). Deprim is currently not registered, therefore availability would be contingent on regulatory approval being granted by Medsafe. This proposal does not affect the availability of co-trimoxazole tablets. Co-trimoxazole 480 mg tablets (Trisul) will remain fully funded and available on PSO. All feedback received before the closing date will be considered by PHARMAC’s Board (or Chief Executive acting under delegated authority) before making a decision on this proposal. Details of the proposal PHARMAC has entered into a provisional agreement with AFT Pharmaceuticals Limited for the Pharmaceutical Schedule listing of its brand of the antibiotic co-trimoxazole (Deprim), formulated as an oral liquid (suspension). If this proposal is accepted, it is anticipated that Deprim would be listed as soon as practicable following Medsafe registration of the product, but not before 1 July 2008 under the following conditions: · · · Co-trimoxazole 240 mg per 5 mL oral liquid (Deprim) would be listed in Section B and Part II of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule at a price and subsidy of $2.15 (ex-manufacturer, excl. GST) per 100 mL bottle Co-trimoxazole 240 mg per 5 ml oral liquid would be available on a practitioner’s supply order (PSO) with a maximum quantity of 200 ml per PSO Deprim would have contractual protection from delisting and subsidy reduction until 1 July 2011
