Consultation on a proposal to list Arrow-Clopidogrel in the Pharmaceutical Schedule

PHARMAC has entered into a provisional agreement with Arrow Pharmaceuticals (NZ) Limited in relation to the listing of clopidogrel (Arrow-Clopidogrel) in the Pharmaceutical Schedule. Details of the proposal are as follows: · Arrow-Clopidogrel 75 mg tablets would be listed in Section B and in Part II of Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule from 1 March 2008 at the following price and subsidy (exmanufacturer, excluding GST):

Chemical Clopidogrel Brand Arrow-Clopidogrel Strength 75 mg Pack size 28 tab Price and subsidy $45.00

The price and subsidy (ex-manufacturer, excluding GST) of Arrow-Clopidogrel would decrease from 1 March 2009 as follows:

Chemical Clopidogrel Brand Arrow-Clopidogrel Strength 75 mg Pack size 28 tab Price and subsidy $35.00

Arrow-Clopidogrel would be listed under the current clopidogrel Special Authority criteria in Section B of the Pharmaceutical Schedule. Arrow-Clopidogrel would have subsidy protection in Section B of the Pharmaceutical Schedule until 1 March 2009. Arrow-Clopidogrel would have delisting protection in Section B and Section H of the Pharmaceutical Schedule until 1 March 2010. The subsidy for the Plavix brand of clopidogrel in Section B of the Pharmaceutical Schedule would be reduced by reference pricing it to Arrow-Clopidogrel as follows:

Chemical Clopidogrel Brand Plavix Strength 75 mg Pack size 28 tab Subsidy per pack As at 1 June 2007 $73.38 From 1 March 2008 $45.00 From 1 March 2009 $35.00
